TasteAtlas: The Global Guide to Flavors

TasteAtlas stands out as a prestigious gastronomy platform that maps the world’s cuisines, highlights local flavors, and rates them based on user votes. Every year, this digital guide publishes lists such as “Best Dishes,” “Best Sandwiches,” and “Best Street Foods,” compiled from thousands of user reviews. It has now become a reference point in many areas — from restaurants to travel routes.

The 2025 list of “The World’s Best Sandwiches” has once again been a source of pride for Turkey. Among 279 different sandwich varieties, Tombik Döner claimed the #1 spot. Also known as Gobit Döner, this version, famous for its soft and fluffy bread, has become a favorite among thousands of people around the world — with credit also due to its classic companions like tomatoes, onions, greens, and peppers.

Iskender Kebab Among the World’s Finest Flavors

TasteAtlas doesn’t limit itself to sandwiches. With data collected throughout the year, it also prepares a list of the “World’s Top 100 Dishes,” where Turkish cuisine stands out with many of its iconic flavors — including dishes made with doner.

The İskender Kebab, a specialty from Bursa, also made it onto the list, ranking 26th this year. Crowned with butter, tomato sauce, and yogurt, this variety of doner kebab is a perfect example of how doner can be presented in a more refined and distinctive way.

A New Era for Turkish Cuisine?

The lists published each year by platforms like TasteAtlas are more than just rankings — they serve as indicators of cultural recognition and appreciation. The prominence of Tombik Döner and İskender Kebab shows that the international prestige of Turkish cuisine is growing, and that it is now becoming a global point of reference.

A New Chapter for World Cuisine

In the near future, TasteAtlas will continue to witness how doner enriches not only Turkish cuisine but also global gastronomy — helping this culinary richness spread even faster around the world.

A perfect example of this is lahmacun, one of the most beloved dishes in Turkish cuisine. Doner has elevated it into an enriched wrap, offering a perfect combination for those who want to enjoy two flavors at once. Likewise, Doner Beyti and doner pide are becoming favorites among true food lovers.

The same can be said for Italian cuisine. Very soon, not only Italians but pizza lovers worldwide will be enhancing their experience with doner pizza. Meanwhile, doner has already influenced Mexican cuisine, giving birth to a fusion known as Doner Quesadilla. Other creations like Doner Bowl and Doner Burger demonstrate just how warmly the world has embraced this flavor.

Doner Has Passed the Integration Test

It’s only a matter of time before TasteAtlas includes even more international versions of doner in its rankings. After all, we know that the German-style doner typically uses chicken instead of lamb — unlike in Turkey — and features a completely different approach to salads and sauces.

This evolution proves that doner has successfully integrated into global culinary culture, adapting to local tastes while maintaining its authentic soul.
